(Chuck Whortle)

Q: After reading the script, did you immediately think you wanted to do this movie?
A: I liked the script because it kept me reading. The feeling that came out of this situation, in which you had a bunch of people dealing with death and destruction and danger can bring out the best in people. That feeling seems to be consistent throughout the script, and since it's a true story, it's even more moving.

Q: Did this script change your thoughts about doctors and nurses?
A: Well, I think pretty highly of doctors and nurses. I personally have a lot of gratitude towards them. There were a lot of heroic things that appealed to me, especially since it was true.

Q: What is the positive message in this movie?
A: Human beings are basically loving and compassionate people who are willing to sacrifice their own interests and their own safety for others. It's completely unselfish and something that we don't see everyday in the 21st century.

Q: Tell me about your character.
A: Well he's the chief of the office of emergency management and a Texan. I can very much identify with him, being a Texan myself. And he's the type of person who is good at sizing up a problem and coming to a quick solution.

Q: Describe your character's situation.
A: He's in a jam. We're so accustomed to the things that make our life easy these days that, when the power goes out and you haven't got your computer and you haven't got your telephone and you haven't got your radio or communication with the outside world, it's very difficult to do anything. So it calls on the imagination to come up with a solution to these things. Then, you have to be thinking on your feet and do a good job at it.

Q: What makes this story so dramatic?
A: I think the drama in it for me is after you solve one problem, you have another that looks unsolvable, but these people looked at the problems and solved them. They continually showed that the situation brought out the best in people by their self-sacrifice.

Q: Can you identify with that?
A: Well, I would like to think that I can. Whether back during my military career or my time on the road with my band, there's a problem everyday. It's like my friend Billy used to tell me: "If you can't get out of it, get into it". So you get used to making the best of sorry situations.
