The teleplay is by Dalene Young, based on two-time Newberry winner Katherine Paterson's short story "Poor Little Innocent Lamb" from A Midnight Clear. The two-hour Johnson & Johnson Spotlight Presentation is produced by The Polson Company in association with Viacom Productions and MAGNA Global Entertainment. MISS LETTIE AND ME was shot on location in Griffin, Georgia, at Brookfield Plantation, a National Registry of Historic Places property.
In the film, Lettie Anderson (Moore) lives alone on a small-town farm with only her long-time farmhand Isaiah Griffin and his family and occasional visits from her mahjong club to keep her company. Lettie's early life was one of sacrifice - she set aside her dreams to care for those she loved, only to be devastated when they left her. As a result, she has closed her life and her heart to new people and experiences.
But Lettie's quiet existence is disrupted when her smart and feisty nine-year-old grandniece, Travis (Coleman), arrives for an extended stay while her mother, who Lettie has been estranged from for years, goes to California to pursue a singing career. Not only is Travis' visit a surprise to Lettie, but Travis is as well. Lettie didn't even know she existed.
Embittered by her past, Lettie hardens her heart against Travis, leaving her to spend time helping Isaiah (Robinson) on the farm and amusing herself. Travis is disappointed; after all, she expected her great aunt to be, well, "great." But ultimately, Lettie's hard heart is no match for Travis, who, with the help of Lettie's long-lost love Samuel Madison (Reynolds), teaches Miss Lettie to open her heart and love again.
MISS LETTIE AND ME is the second original film to premiere under the Johnson & Johnson Spotlight Presentation banner. The Johnson & Johnson Spotlight Presentation Door to Door, starring Oscar®-nominated actor William H. Macy (Fargo), was the first original to be showcased in TNT and Johnson & Johnson's collaboration to develop and produce original films. Johnson & Johnson Spotlight Presentations represent an important effort by Johnson & Johnson, a founding member of the Family Friendly Programming Forum of advertisers, to expand family-friendly programming on prime time television. The Johnson & Johnson Spotlight Presentation development effort was initiated by Interpublic's MAGNA Global Entertainment.
