New World Library
New World Library is dedicated to awakening individual and global potential through inspirational and practical nonfiction books and audio cassettes. We publish books and cassettes on personal growth, spirituality, health and wellness, business and prosperity, religion, parenting, multicultural studies and women's studies, and also have a growing Spanish language publishing program. New World Library publishes about 40 new titles annually and has an active backlist of over 200 books, audio cassettes and videos.
New World Library was founded in 1977 originally as Whatever Publishing, Inc. in the kitchen of a small apartment in Oakland, California, by Marc Allen and Shakti Gawain to publish a few booklets they had written. Now located in Novato, California, New World Library has 15 employees and has moved well into the ranks of a midsize publisher.
One of its first books, Shakti Gawain's Creative Visualization, became an international bestseller and has sold over 3.0 million copies in English and been translated into over 30 foreign editions. Another, Deepak Chopra's The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, co-published with Amber-Allen Publishing, has sold over 2.0 million copies in English and has been translated into over 30 foreign languages as well. Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now is poised to join these elite titles, with sales of 200,000 copies since November 1999.
New World Library co-publishes with Nataraj Publishing and Amber-Allen Publishing. In 2000, New World Library also entered into a joint venture with HJ Kramer. Under the terms of agreement, New World Library assumed responsibility for HJ Kramer's sales, marketing, subsidiary rights, fulfillment, production and accounting. HJ Kramer still maintains their focus on the editorial development of their list. This arrangement means that New World Library has taken on HJ Kramer's strong backlist titles, including its children's imprint, Starseed Press.
New World Library also publishes books and tapes by Riane Eisler, Shakti Gawain, Deepak Chopra, Richard Carlson, Dan Millman, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Kent Nerburn, Brother Wayne Teasdale, Valerie Ann Worwood, Echo Bodine, Marc Allen and others.
