One of today's most respected actresses, Helen Mirren recently starred in Robert Altman's Gosford Park, for which she received SAG, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations as well as the New York Film Critics Award. Her other film credits include The Pledge; Teaching Mrs. Tingle; Some Mother's Son; The Madness of King George, which earned her a Cannes Film Festival award and an Academy Award® nomination; Cal, for which she won a Cannes Film Festival award; Mosquito Coast; The Long Good Friday; Excalibur; Comfort of Strangers; Pascali's Island; and Peter Greenaway's controversial The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover. Mirren starred in the telefilm The Passion of Ayn Rand, for which she earned an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. Her accomplished body of work includes her British Academy Award, Emmy and Golden Globe-winning role as Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison in the PBS series Prime Suspect. She made her directorial debut with the short Happy Birthday for Showtime.

Most recently, Mirren starred on Broadway, opposite Sir Ian McKellen in August Strindberg's Dance of Death. As a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, she has portrayed most of the classic theatrical roles, including Ophelia, Cressida and Lady Macbeth. Mirren also starred in The Seagull, Miss Julie and Tennessee Williams' Orpheus Descending.
