John Hannah

Born in East Kilbride, Scotland, in 1962, John Hannah spent four years as an apprentice electrician. He dropped that career, however, after being accepted at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. Upon graduation, Hannah worked with Britain's leading repertory theater companies, including the National Theatre Co., the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Bristol Old Vic, the Newcastle Playhouse and the Glasgow Citizens Theatre.

Hannah is probably best known for one of his first big roles, that of Matthew in Four Weddings and a Funeral. The role not only won him a global audience, but also the Scottish BAFTA for Best Actor. Hannah also won the Best Actor Award at the Stockholm Film Festival for his role in 1995's Madagascar Skin.

His other films include The James Gang with Toni Collette, Sliding Doors opposite Gwyneth Paltrow, The Hurricane with Denzel Washington and Circus with Famke Jennsen and Eddie Izzard.

Hannah's next project is 2002's romantic comedy, I'm With Lucy with Monica Potter and David Boreanz.
