Rutger Hauer continues to create a broad range of memorable characters, starring in over fifty films to date. As the intelligent yet brutal replicant in Ridley's Scott's Blade Runner, the brave underground fighter in Soldier of Orange, or the dark-hearted menace in The Hitcher, Hauer is a powerful actor who reveals beauty and tragedy in all of the characters he portrays. In 1980, Hauer starred opposite Sylvester Stallone in Nighthawks, the film that brought him recognition to American audiences. He has also starred in Ladyhawke starring Michelle Pfeiffer; The Legend of the Holy Drinker, which won him the Best Actor Award at the 1988 Seattle International Film Festival; Simon Magus; Blind Fury; The Blood of Heroes; Wanted: Dead or Alive; A Breed Apart; Surviving the Game; Beans of Egypt, Maine; Mariette in Ecstasy; and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, starring George Clooney, Drew Barrymore and Sam Rockwell. Hauer will next be seen in the feature film, Never Enough, expected out later this year.
Hauer's television credits include TNT's AMELIA EARHART: THE FINAL DESTINATION, starring Diane Keaton; HBO's Fatherland, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination; the Jack London classic Call of the Wild; HBO's Hostile Waters; the Hallmark presentation of Merlin, starring Sam Neill, Isabella Rossellini and Helena Bonham Carter; and the NBC miniseries, The 10th Kingdom. Hauer also appeared in the television series Alias and Smallville.
Hauer has produced several documentaries, including Prosit Ermanno, a film based on the making of The Legend of the Holy Drinker; Who Are They?, a view of the life of a homeless man; and Kill the Camera, a look behind the making of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Hauer co-directed, co-wrote, produced and acted in the short film The Room, which took top prize at the Paris Filmfest.
