Donald Sutherland
(Richard Straker)

Donald Sutherland is one of the most prolific and versatile of motion picture stars, whose offbeat elegance is evident in an astonishing array of more than 100 films. These films range from the biting political satire of Robert Altman's M.A.S.H. to the intimate drama of Robert Redford's Ordinary People to the subtle intricacy of Alan Pakula's Klute to the eccentric romanticism of Fellini's Casanova. His 14th motion picture, M.A.S.H., is what earned him international stardom. Additional film highlights from Sutherland's career include Don't Look Now; The Day of the Locust; Alex in Wonderland; Robert Aldrich's The Dirty Dozen; Max Dugan Returns, with Jason Robards, Marsha Mason and Matthew Broderick; Crackers; Ron Howard's Backdraft; Oliver Stone's JFK; Disclosure, with Demi Moore and Michael Douglas; Outbreak, with Dustin Hoffman and Morgan Freeman; Instinct, with Sir Anthony Hopkins and Cuba Gooding, Jr; Space Cowboys, with Tommy Lee Jones, Clint Eastwood and James Cromwell; The Italian Job, with Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron; and the critically-acclaimed film, Cold Mountain, starring Nicole Kidman, Jude Law and Renee Zellweger. There was also the unforgettable performance in the National Lampoon classic, Animal House. Sutherland received the 1983 Genie Award as Best Actor for his role in Threshold, with Mare Winningham and Jeff Goldblum. He was also honored in 1998 with a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor in Without Limits, with Billy Crudup.

Sutherland has starred in several critically acclaimed television projects, including his Emmy and Golden Globe-winning role for Best Supporting Actor in HBO's Citizen X, with Stephen Rea and his Golden Globe win for Best Supporting Actor in HBO's Path to War. He also appeared in the miniseries The Oldest Living Confederate Tells All; Behind the Mask, with Matthew Fox; and TNT's The Hunley.

Sutherland made his London stage debut in August for the People. In 1981, Sutherland returned to stage in the Broadway production of Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita. More recently, Sutherland completed a sold-out engagement at the Mitzi Newhouse Theatre of Lincoln Center in Jon Robin Baitz's Ten Unknowns, featuring Julianna Margulies and Justin Kirk. His performance earned him an Outer Critics Circle nomination. He has also appeared in the English version of Enigmatic Variations, adapted by his son Roeg Sutherland from Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt's hit French play.
