Sherry Stringfield
(Dr. Susan Lewis)
Tough, talented medical resident Dr. Susan Lewis has sacrificed nearly everything to pursue her medical career. Saddled with her unstable sister's baby, she grows to love the little girl and plans on keeping her, only to lose her when the court returns custody to her sister. The pressures of balancing the demands of the E.R., her overbearing family's expectations and her own driving ambition finally prove more than she chooses to deal with and she departs for a job elsewhere. But fate brings her back to the E.R. five years later.
Prior to her Emmy and Golden Globe Award-nominated role on ER (1994-1996, 2001-) Sherry Stringfield first came to the public's attention with starring roles on the critically acclaimed series NYPD Blue and on the daytime drama Guiding Light. Stringfield has worked extensively on stage in such productions as Goose and TomTom, Hurly Burly, A Dream Play, Hot L Baltimore, The Kitchen and Tom Jones. Stringfield created quite a stir with her decision to depart the highly acclaimed ER to pursue a more fulfilling personal life. Since then, she has appeared in the television films Border Line and Going Home and on the big screen in 54, Autumn in New York and Viva Las Nowhere. Stringfield rejoined the cast of ER in 2001, after a five-year absence.
