Dan Angel, an Emmy, Peabody and Writers Guild of America Award-winning writer and producer, has been creating and supervising quality film and television production for more than 20 years. He is a partner at the family entertainment production company The Hatchery LLC, where he has produced and developed a number of live-action and animated programs.
In 2007, Angel co-wrote and executive produced R.L. Stineís The Haunting Hour: Donít Think About It, the first in The Hatcheryís series of direct-to-DVD movies based on Stineís works. The project premiered on Cartoon Network to record ratings and earned Angel a WGA Award nomination. The Halloween DVD continues to sell well around the world.
Angel did double duty producing and serving as writer and creator of the game show Balderdash and the swashbuckling adventure Young Blades, both for PAX. Over the last four years, he has developed a number of properties, including Scrooge: The Musical and the Lifetime miniseries Ruby. He has also worked closely with American Greetings to develop a number of their brands into television series.
Among Angelís other noteworthy accomplishments, he developed and executive-produced TNTís Emmy and Peabody-winning movie Door to Door. He produced and co-wrote the top-rated series Goosebumps, winning a WGA Award. Angel worked with partner Billy Brown as writer and story editor for the long-running series The X-Files. Angel also served as supervising producer of the popular series Animorphs.
Angel worked with Brown in developing and supervising such projects as Brats of the Lost Nebula through a deal with The Jim Henson Co. He also worked with Brown as co-writer and executive producer of the acclaimed Battlestar Galactica miniseries, which completely re-imagined the sci-fi property.
In 2002, Angel created, wrote and executive produced a drama pilot for the WB television network called Shadow Walkers. Angel also created two primetime series, The Fearing Mind for The Jim Henson Co. and Fox Family cable channel and Night Visions for Warner Brothers and Fox television. Night Visions was reprised in 2003 on the Sci-Fi Channel for a number of years and in 2008 was reprised again by Chiller TV.
Angel is also credited with creating, writing and executive producing the CableACE-nominated John Carpenter Presents Body Bags and served as writing producer for National Lampoonís Ahead of Its Time.
A graduate of the UCLA Film School, Angel has overseen production for several companies, including FIT TV, Body By Jake and Palmer/Cablevision of Southern California. He lives with his wife and three children in the Los Angeles suburb of Toluca Lake.
