As the original middle, but now eldest of the Halliwell sisters, Piper has always taken the role of the family mediator and peacemaker. A talented chef, Piper was living a normal life in San Francisco prior to her Grandmother's death, completely unaware of her Wicca heritage (the girls' powers were bound by their grandmother during childhood for their protection). When Grams 'passes', the three adult sisters return to their family home where Phoebe discovers the mysterious Book of Shadows, and unwittingly recites an incantation from it aloud. This restores the sisters' powers, which when combined, makes them the strongest magical force known — The Charmed Ones. For six years, Piper and her sisters have been learning to control and use their powers for good protecting Innocents, while vanquishing demons, who are always trying to thwart them. Balancing a business, a marriage, two children, the well-being of her sisters and the world, Piper is the poster woman for a multi-tasking Wicca for the new millennium.

Even though she is one of the most powerful witches in the world, Piper still has 'normal' issues to confront daily. Always wanting to help others — sometimes at the expense of herself — Piper's powers allow her to jump in assisting friends and strangers. But she often over-commits herself, leading to a somewhat frantic existence. Her good heart sometimes leads her into trouble too, but at least she's smart and resourceful. The most reticent of the sisters to accept her fate, Piper was suddenly thrust into being the head of the family when Prue died. She accepted her new role and gradually grew into it. She became not only the heart and soul, but the strength of her family. Piper applies these same qualities to her professional life. As co-owner and manager of the successful club, P3, she brings magic to the masses nightly.
