Frances Conroy

For her portrayal of Ruth in HBO’s Six Feet
Under, Frances Conroy has been honored with a Golden Globe® and
a Screen Actors Guild Award®, as well as four Emmy®
nominations. Her additional work in
television includes such shows as Law & Order, Cosby, Alex
Haley’s miniseries Queen and the television movie Murder in a Small
Town. Her many theatre credits
include the Lincoln Center production of Our Town, first performed on
Broadway and then taped for PBS’s Great Performances, and Edward Albee’s The
Lady from Dubuque and Three Tall Women. She received an Obie for her work in Arthur Miller’s The Last
Yankee and a Tony nomination for Miller’s The Ride Down Mt. Morgan. She has also received four Drama Desk Award
nominations, winning the award for her performance in David Hare’s The
Secret Rapture.
Conroy’s numerous film appearances include the
Woody Allen films Manhattan, Another Woman and Crimes and
Misdemeanors; Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator; Pitof’s Catwoman, Wayne Wang’s Maid in Manhattan, Terence Davies’ The
Neon Bible; Martin Brest’s Academy Award®-winning Scent of a
Woman; Jim Jarmusch’s Broken Flowers; and Frank Oz’s Dirty Rotten
Scoundrels. She most recently
appeared with Nicolas Cage in The Wicker Man.
