Finale means final. And as a crew we were not sure if we would reconvene again next year to continue Major Crimes, the legacy of a spin off from the hugely popular The Closer. We had not begun airing yet so had no idea if we were going to bomb or succeed. It was a tense time. Not fun. Rather worrisome. When we said goodbye at our curtain call the last night of shooting at almost 3 in the morning, a tradition begun on the last day of shooting The Closer pilot in 2004 but our executive producer and favored director Michael Robin...all of us looked around the murder room and wondered as Peggy Lee sang..."Is that all there is?"
I'll admit I lit a few votive candles for the success of the show. And the numbers came in for our premier and BAM! We were a hit and now...watching this finale on television with the rest of the Major Crimes fans I was struck by the fact that we all did a damn good job!
Who cares if some fans think Raydor should not wear high heels...I'll have you distractors know that they are sensible 2 and one half inch heels...everything looks taller on t.v. and by this tenth episode i would also like to offer that the evolution of Raydor's wardrobe has now shone the range of her closet...black, white, gray blue, lavender, thistle, wheat, cream, geometric print, exaggerated leopard print, cashmere sweaters at home, and for the last two weeks JEANS!!!!Be prepared for more changes and experimentations with all of our guys and gals. We have been using costumes from the first season of The Closer and it's time to go shopping! Sure, I'll keep some ties and sportcoats...in real life there's some things that you just can't let go of...color stories will stay the same, who could expect Tao NOT to have plaids, checks and stripes all in one outfit? And for all concerned, YES Buzz will continue to wear sweaters...Provenza will don beige even if GW hasn't done something to make me punish him by pulling out the beige...did I ever tell you that GW Bailey HATES beige, he feels he looks good in blue, one time I caught him making a joke at my expense and in retaliation dressed him in head to toe beige...the two of us love to laugh when ever I choose a beige...actually it's cream, shirt, because as a true professional he will wear just about whatever we put into his room.
It's little things like someone not liking a color, or not complaining about something that doesn't quite fit perfectly because they knew we had a major amount of guest stars cast the night before we began the episode and they understand, or always being able to grab a bag of chips at craft service on the way back to the office...these little things that I would have truly missed if TNT had not chosen to give us another chance at creating a boffo show for the old Closer's Monday night time slot...we are so thrilled and proud.

And until next summer--
Walk with the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planners, the doers, the successful people with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground. Let their spirit ignite a fire within you to leave this world better than you found it.
