episode 402 - July 21, 2008

First of all Congratulations to Miss Kyra Sedgwick on her Emmy Nomination for The Closer!!!! A win will truly be deserved, since she is in every single scene of every single episode, can't say that about any of the other nominees!!! The girl deserves to win the gold!

And Miss Brenda won the gold in this second episode, the prize being an early morning romp under the sheets with dreamboat Fritz. Of couse Miss Brenda cavorts in a little bubble gum pink stretch cami with satin straps and a pair of oh-so-sexy black cotton and lace Natori boy shorts bought from the Bra Smyth in New York City.

Since Brenda is feeling sassy I brought back good ol' Brenda which is the look that we've grown to love, her signature pastel pink cashmere twin set from The Pure Collection, 1 866- 864-8199 ask for Suzanne, and a repeat of a turqoise, black and hot pink leopard print flirty skirt from last season JC Penney and of course her two seasons ago magenta lizard Jimmy Choo kitten heel pumps from Saks Fifth Avenue. The producers and director had written this episode for the heat of an L.A. Summer and the day we shot the crime scene it was cloudy, misty and cool and of course that's when we have to keep Miss Kyra warm and toasty, I just happened to pack onto the wardrobe trailer her raspberry suede trench coat, a three seasons ago find from Michael Kors...thank god he's not judging Brenda Leigh for Project Runway...would love to see what he'd diss or die for...because certain items in his spring line were very similar to what our favorite fish out of water cop wears on the small screen...thanks Michael!! Brenda's either in or she's out! Too bad Fritz was worn out by the morning bedroom acrobatics because for the entire episode he is laid out on the floor of the duplex wearing nothing more than his James Perse "lounge pants" from Bloomingdales, very soft and comfy. We shot at a real half way house near downtown L.A. and are introduced to the killers Karen and Patty, resplendant in K-Mart and JC Penney's finest, everything Karen and Patty wear on the show has been overdyed with a subtle wash of tan just to give a patina to the old gals. This story was ripped from the headlines of the L.A. Times and it really happened and the two ladies just got life sentences. That's what's fun about working on all of these Closer stories, the reality factor and bringing the ficticious to life but being very clear that this truly did happen...the names were changed to protect the guilty!

So I mentioned thinking up a new silhouette for Brenda over our hiatus and for this 4th season that is the pencil skirt and twin set, made famous in the golden age of Hollywood by such screen sirens as Lana Turner, Doris Day and Marilyn Monroe--and now Brenda Leigh Johnson. Brenda looks drop dead in our version, again, in a Pure Collection Heathered Gray cardi and cami, did you know that gray cashmere is the softest, because it's the natural color of the Tibetan goats that Pure uses for their product, the other colors get a bit less soft as the dyes and bleaches are added to the process. Kyra adored the softness. I paired the sweater set with a Lili Ann vintage Off of e-bay, charcoal gray wool pencil skirt, what a striking, powerful look and repeated her new Chanel shoes.

When Brenda closed her case I wanted even more power that the story demanded and that came in dressing her in a vintage Irene suit coat from season 3 and a straight wide leg trouser in sand from a season ago Michael Kors. I fudge a little bit and put Brenda in a very high heel so that the pants hang beautifully, no cop in their right mind would wear a stilletto, but for the sake of silhouette I did it!

Some day I will let y'all know secrets about some of our other characters and what they wear, today I'll mention Irene Daniels played by Gina Ravera. Her second change is a great looking Diane Von Furstenberg dress from this season, at the DVF Boutique on Melrose in L.A. 323 951-1947 ask for Kat. It's chocolate brown and has a wrap top attatched to a slim fitting slit skirt, but it's an adult all-in-one and stunning on Miss Gina.

Well, my little Closer Cupcakes hope you enjoyed Speedbump and until next week from Brenda's Corner and the Closer Closet..ta ta!
